2015 - 2016

STVV had a great start to the season under the leadership of Yannick Ferrera. The PhD student showed in the beginning of the season that it could play very well, for example they gained 3 points against Genk, Club Brugge and twice against Standard. Everyone was very enthusiastic about the Limburgers.

Yannick Ferrera exchanged STVV for Standard Liège. Chris O'Loughlin became T1, Benni McCarthy T2. Also in the transfer period the Canaries were not spared, a lot of players were replaced. In the run-up to the Play-Offs STVV has to fight for a place in Play-Off II.

The tension could be cut in the run-up to the Play-Offs. The last match, against Lokeren, was the all-deciding game. In the 82nd minute, Lokeren took the lead. This would mean relegation for STVV. In the 90th minute the redemption came, Yohan Boli headed the 1-1 final score against the ropes. STVV thus ensured preservation and participated in Play-Off II for a European ticket.

In Play-Off II, STVV had a lesser period. The Canaries gained 3 of the 18 points and ended on the 4th place in group B. They gained three points from three draws against Charleroi, Lokeren and KV Mechelen. STVV knew how to start each game strongly, but was always sent home empty-handed.

Even before the end of the season, O'Loughlin said he would not be a trainer next season. Benni McCarthy and Patrick Nys, the goalkeeper coach, also ended their contract with the club. Ivan Leko succeeded Chris O'loughlin as head coach. Patrick van Kets became assistant trainer.

A special press conference took place on 27 May. Here Bart Lammens, the chairman, said that he had sold all his shares to Roland Duchâtelet and Marieke Höfte. Marieke became the new chairman, with Roland as her right hand. With this, STVV was the first female chairman of a professional Belgian football club.
